Operations Research Textbook
Description: Operations Research was originally developed as practical solutions to real problems in management – bringing it into full accord with the definition of management engineering. It was not originally embraced by industrial engineering, and its basic engineering techniques were not well published to working managers. It has slipped into “management improvement” efforts based on stochastic and modeling techniques. There is room for a return to “optimizing techniques” that are suitable for basic efficiency engineering.
Availability: A request for the development of this textbook
has been passed to the
Special: A new OR application has been uncovered in
the application of management engineering to the principles of
administration. This is the use of CPM
logic and approach in the distribution of resources and capacities within an
organization. There are work areas where
improvement of the productive effort will yield overall improvement in the organization;
critical path areas for improvement.
There are other “slack” areas where an improvement will have local-effect-only
until the amount of slack has been taken up.
